Which one fits you

IGNOU is the better fit if…

  • you need a university MBA degree specifically — for a government or PSU post, a promotion rule, or a PhD later
  • you are happy to wait for the January or July cycle and study for at least two years
  • your specialisation is one of IGNOU’s four: Finance, HR, Marketing or Operations
  • you are comfortable sitting written exams at an exam centre each June and December

IICT is the better fit if…

  • you want to finish in as little as a year — the Fast-track 1 year option — and put the MBA to work sooner
  • you would rather start this month than wait for the next cycle
  • your field is specialised — Foreign Trade, Banking, Insurance, Hospital Management, Logistics — and you want the MBA to say so
  • your graduation score is under 50% — any graduate can apply
  • you want the lowest total cost: about half IGNOU’s tuition, with Flexi EMI

Not a ceiling: PNB Housing Finance’s annual reports record its former MD & CEO, Girish Kousgi — now MD & CEO of IIFL Home Finance — as holding an executive master’s diploma in Business Administration from IICT.

The bottom line

IGNOU’s strength is the degree itself: a low-cost MBA from a central university. If a rule you face asks for a university degree, that matters, and IGNOU is a sound choice.

For most working professionals the deciding question is different — how soon, and how affordably, the MBA starts paying off. On that measure IICT leads: about half the fee, a one-year fast track, admission in any month and a specialisation for almost every industry. And if you later need a university degree as well, IICT’s advisors guide that route too.

Need a university degree instead?

IICT offers two routes. Its own Corporate MBA is an MBA Diploma awarded by the institute — the practical, lower-cost choice for most working professionals. If the role you are aiming for asks for a university degree, IICT also guides MBA degree admission with Subharti University (₹65,000, or ₹67,000 in instalments) and Amity University, and the university awards the degree. Either way, one advisor helps you pick the route that fits what you need the MBA for.
